Authority before the Courts of Heaven is gained through giving up our lives for His will to be done.

If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

This means they spent their earthly life doing their own bidding rather that what God made them for. In the mercy and grace of the Lord they are saved, yet there is no compensation in the next life. This would mean they didn’t qualify to be a part of this great cloud of witnesses. This is an elite group that is granted great power because of the life of faith they lived in concert with the purposes of God. Therefore, when they give testimony in the Courts from a legal and judicial place, they are heard. As with all the other aspects of this realm, we are to agree with them. This doesn’t mean we have encounters with them, though we can. It means we agree by faith with who they are and what we understand they are doing in that heavenly place. Many times the intercession we find ourselves in is because we are picking up what they are presently doing before the Lord. As witnesses before the Lord, they are releasing testimony/intercession there. We are told that the church in earth and those in heaven are still connected in Ephesians 3:14-15.

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.

The saints who are in earth and the ones in heaven are a part of the same family/church. We are vitally connected. Therefore, there are times when the intercession they are yet moving in will empower us. We pick up the passion of their hearts and begin to move in it as well. Revelation 6:9-11 verifies that those who are in heaven are yet praying and interceding.

When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.

Even though these are in the heavenly realm, they are waiting for their ultimate reward but are still crying to the Lord for judgments to come from His Throne. There is prayer from those who are in heaven. This is what they are doing as witnesses. Their intercession is judicial testimony before the Lord as Judge. We also see that they are those who have been made perfect. They are the spirits of just men made perfect.
